SYAFANA NEWS – Sunday, 21st July 2024, Upper Secondary Syafana Islamic School students, accompanied by me, left for the United Kingdom to partake in the Summer Boarding Courses at Cambridge College. They undertook a long 7-hour journey from Jakarta – Dubai. Then they waited 3 hours for the next flight departing to London which took another for 7 hours. Despite being tired, they were so enthusiastic. “I’m tired but really excited to participate in this programme,” said Faiz. As soon as we arrived at Heathrow airport, in London, we were awaited by our Programme representative from Spain named Natalia. She was so friendly and communicative. Then we were picked up by a driver from SBC and continued our journey to Cambridge for about 90 minutes. When we arrived we were greeted so warmly by the Principal of Cambridge College, Thom. Thereafter, our students were asked to complete the re-registration form and submit their suitcases to be delivered to the dormitory.
After leaving the dormitory, students had an opportunity to rest and clean up. After lunch, our students went straight to the hall to partake in orientation activities. They were divided into groups by disclosing their birth dates without speaking. Very exciting. Then several staff took them around Cambridge so they could get to know the environment.
On the second day, students followed the schedule starting with breakfast at 08.00, then they gathered again in the hall. Josh, the Student Director opened the activity splendidly by providing enthusiasm and motivation to the students. After that, they returned to class according to the major they chose. From the second to the fourth day, they will carry out activities in class.
This year, SBC in Cambridge College has 32 staff allocated, led by Thom, the Principal. In the first 2 weeks, Cambridge College was visited by 91 students, and in the following 2 weeks 112 students, including from Syafana Islamic School. “Apart from Indonesia, we were visited by students from many countries such as Romania, China, Japan, Russia, Italy, Turkey, Poland, America, Germany, Thailand, Brazil, and many more, so it’s 33 countries for all,” said Lakeisha, Welfare Manager.
